Tommy Hitchcock/An American Hero by Nelson W. Aldrich, Jr.
Fleet Street Corp., New York, 1984. First edition. Scarce; fine condition, green cloth hardcover, dj very good with small tears at top. Biography of an American WWI flying hero and noted polo player who met his end in WWII test-flying a Mustang to determine why they were having problems crashing. His life inspired the creation of characters in several of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novels; it ought to inspire a movie. The first half is basically a war story, including Hitchcock’s escape from a German prison train. The second deals mostly with polo.
