The Breeding of Foxhounds by Earl Bathurst, C.M.G.
London, Constable & Co, Ltd., 1926. 8vo, b/w photos & copies of print. Good condition, some foxing, bumped edges and worn spine ends, binding faded, but tight. No dj; affixed to inside front flyleaf is what remains of it. Enclosed are two reviews of the book from a 1929 newspaper, cut out and put into the book by Harry Worcester Smith, its former owner, whose bookplate is inside front cover. There is a wealth of information on old English lines of foxhounds, with a number of pedigrees given, and a few photographs or artwork. After several chapters on hounds of the 1800s, the author goes on to discuss breeding in general: linebreeding, Mendelism, and color each receive a chapter. A useful reference for foxhound enthusiasts with a notable provenance as well!
