Stonewall Jackson’s Little Sorrel, by Sharon B. Smith
An excellent biography of one of the two most well-known horses in the Confederacy, if not the entire Civil War armies. Jackson’s Little Sorrel – bought off a trainload at Harper’s Ferry - was a humble, plain little horse that proved to be the ideal mount for the General – easygoing, quiet, and very comfortable to ride, as his natural gait was a pace, not a trot. He long outlived his master, who died in 1863 following his wounding at the battle of Chancellorsville, and can still be seen in the VMI Museum in Lexington, Virginia.
